〘 noun 〙 A catheter is inserted into the bladder through the urethra to allow urine to be excreted. This is done when a person is unable to urinate on their own, such as when the bladder's contractile force is weakened or abdominal pressure cannot be applied. It may also be done to obtain a sterile urine sample for testing purposes. *The Dreamer and the Scenario (1939) by Nakano Shigeharu, "I am currently catheterizing the bladder."
