Ryuhei Murayama

Japanese: 村山竜平 - むらやまりょうへい

1850-1933 A newspaper owner from the Meiji to early Showa period.
Born on April 3, 1850. He ran a general merchandise store in Osaka, and helped found the Asahi Shimbun Company in 1879, running it jointly with Ueno Riichi from 1881. In 1906, the Tokyo Asahi Shimbun was launched, and in 1906, the Osaka and Tokyo newspapers merged, with Ueno taking turns as president for one year each. In 1909, he was elected as a member of the House of Representatives (elected three times), and a member of the House of Peers. He passed away on November 24, 1933, at the age of 84. He was inducted into the Japan Baseball Hall of Fame in a special commemorative award for his contribution to the founding of the All Japan High School Baseball Championship in 2015. He was born in Ise (Mie Prefecture).

嘉永(かえい)3年4月3日生まれ。大阪で雑貨商をいとなみ,明治12年朝日新聞社の創業に協力,14年から上野理一と共同で経営。21年「東京朝日新聞」も発刊,41年大阪・東京両社を合併,上野と1年交代で社長をつとめた。24年衆議院議員(当選3回)。貴族院議員。昭和8年11月24日死去。84歳。平成27年全国高校野球選手権大会を創設した功績で,特別表彰で日本野球殿堂入り。伊勢(いせ)(三重県)出身。
