Giordano, Luca
Born: October 18, 1632, Naples
Died January 3, 1705. Italian painter in Naples. He studied painting under his father Antonio and J. Ribera in Naples. Around 1650, he went to Rome to study Renaissance painting and was influenced by P. Cortona. In 1667, he stayed in Venice and was influenced by the Venetian school. He stayed in Florence from 1679 to 1682 and created a large ceiling painting in the Medici ballroom (1682-83). In 1669, he was invited by Charles II to go to Spain and created a ceiling painting in the Escorial Palace. He returned to Naples in 1702 and spent the rest of his life there. He was a representative Neapolitan painter in the second half of the 17th century, known for his unparalleled speed and dexterity, and was nicknamed "Luca the Quick Painter" for his diverse style of painting. He also produced an extremely large number of works.

Born: August 27, 1867 in Foggia
[Died] November 12, 1948. Milan Italian composer. He studied at the Milan Conservatory and was active as a composer of verismo opera in the style of P. Mascagni. His representative work is "Andrea Chénier" (1896), which is based on the French Revolution. Other works include "The Vow" and "Madame Unreserved".
