...A Kyoto potter in the late Edo period. Adopted son of the 10th Nishimura Zengoro Ryozen (1769-1840), a doburo maker (a person who makes earthenware furnaces for heating kettles at tea ceremonies). Born into the Sawai Weaver family in Kamikyo, he took the name Zengoro 11 in 1817 (Bunka 14). His adoptive father, Ryozen, studied pottery under Raku Ryonyu in his youth, and in his later years produced Annan and Kouchi copies. Zengoro 11 also switched from making doburo to making ceramics, and in 1827 (Bunsei 10), he was invited by the Kishu Tokugawa family along with Omotesenke Kyuesai, Raku Dannyu, and Ryozen to make pottery at the Mihama Palace, where he was awarded the gold and silver seals of "Kawahama Branch" and "Eiraku."... *Some of the terminology explanations that refer to "Yongle Huiquan" are listed below.
