[Overview]
The women's movement is a product of modern society. As a result of the collapse of feudal communities and the transformation of the family brought about by the Industrial Revolution, the lives of women who had been subsumed within the family became unstable, while the modern idea of human liberation, which preached freedom and equality, made women aware of the discrimination and dependency they found themselves in. Amid these social and ideological changes, women began to search for their own way of life and seek change in their situation. The women's movement attempted to realize these demands through organized activism.

【概観】
　女性運動は近代社会の産物である。封建的共同体の崩壊と産業革命による家族の変質の結果，家族に包摂されてきた女性の生活は不安定になり，他方，自由と平等を説く近代の人間解放思想は，女性に自分のおかれた差別と依存の状態を認識させた。このような社会的･思想的変動のなかで，女性は自分の生き方を模索し，状況の変革を求めるようになる。その要求を組織的運動を通じて実現しようとしたのが女性運動である。
