In order to elucidate a certain phenomenon, it is important to analyze multivariate data that simultaneously measures the subject from several aspects. Measurements include quantitative data, which is given in numbers, and qualitative data, which cannot be expressed in numbers, with the latter being more difficult to handle. Quantification is a statistical data analysis method devised to extract useful information from qualitative multivariate data, and was developed by Hayashi Chikio of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, Ministry of Education. It is also called "Hayashi's quantification" or "Hayashi's quantification theory," and is based on four core analytical methods named Quantification Type I, Type II, Type III, and Type IV.
