An old town in Minami Saitama County, in the central eastern part of Saitama Prefecture. It is located on alluvial lowland, with the Moto-Arakawa River flowing to the southwest and the Minuma Daiisui Canal flowing through the center. The city center along National Route 122 developed as a market town in the early modern period. Rice, fruit and vegetable cultivation is thriving, with pears being a particularly large production area. There are also metal and textile-related factories. In March 2010, it merged with Kuki City, Kurihashi Town in Kitakatsushika County, and Washinomiya Town. 27.37 km2 . Population 21,425 (2005).
