… Japan's ancient construction ceremonies include the Niimurotage and Murohogi ceremonies, both of which are recorded in the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, and the Chronicles of Japan, in particular, contain records of the prayers and songs that were performed at the time. During the construction of the ancient Ise Grand Shrine, the Yamaguchi Festival (a ceremony to worship the god at the entrance to the mountain), the Kinomoto Festival (a festival to cut down the pillars of the main hall), and the Chinjisai were all held. During the construction of ancient temples, the Chindangu were buried in the ground to pray for safety during the foundation work, and a construction memorial service was held upon completion. …
