He was the lord of Iwakura Castle in Owari (Aichi Prefecture) and the deputy governor of the upper four districts. In 1551, he rebelled against Oda Nobunaga together with his younger brother Nobuyuki. In 1560, he was attacked by Nobunaga and was subsequently banished from the castle by his son Nobukata.
