…625-539 BC. Also called the Chaldean dynasty. By the 8th century BC, the Chaldeans had settled in southern Babylonia as tribes and were nominally subservient to the Babylonian kings.

He held the position of chief of the Sea Kingdom under Assyrian suzerainty, but one year after the death of the last king of the British Empire, Ashurbanipal, and his Babylonian puppet, Kandalanu, he ascended to the throne of Babylon and founded the Neo-Babylonian (Chaldean) dynasty. For nearly ten years after his accession to the throne, he endured relentless Assyrian counterattacks and tried to maintain and establish his government, but from around the tenth year of his reign he went on the offensive, launching annual expeditions to Assyria along the Tigris or Euphrates rivers. …
