[1] 〘名〙① 松と竹と梅。冬の寒さに耐えて松・竹は緑を保ち、梅は花を咲かせるので、古来「歳寒の三友」と称し、めでたいもののしるしとして、画題や祝い事の飾り、立花などに用いられる。《季・新年》※空華集（1359‐68頃）三「和_下荷山九峰、春雪賦_二松竹梅_一招_中鈍夫雲心二老_上」〔李邕‐題画詩〕② 品物や席などを三等級に分けたとき、それぞれの等級にかえて用いる語。[2] 邦楽の曲名。めでたい曲として代表的。[一] 地歌、箏曲。江戸末期、大坂の三津橋勾当(こうとう)作曲。梅に鶯、松に鶴、竹に月を配したもので、にぎやかな手事(てごと)（=間奏）がある。このあとをうけて「新松竹梅」「明治松竹梅」などが作られた。[二] 長唄。「室咲松竹梅」「君が代松竹梅」など数曲の通称。三世杵屋正次郎作曲の「室咲松竹梅」が最も有名。[三] 河東節。四世山彦河良作曲。文政一〇年（一八二七）正月初演。能「老松(おいまつ)」の詞章に梅と竹と添え、郭気分を出したもの。
