Changcheng - Shojo

Japanese: 昌城 - しょうじょう

A county in the northern part of North Pyongan Province, Democratic People's Republic of Korea. It is located on the shores of Lake Supung in the middle reaches of the Yalu River, and settlements have been formed along the Changju River valley, which originates at Biraebong (1,470m) and runs through the county. The slopes have been cultivated as terraced fields, and the area is primarily agricultural, with corn and other field crops and livestock farming. The town's central location, Changseong-eup, was originally located on the banks of the Yalu River and was the base for the defense of the northern border from the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty, but was submerged by the construction of Supung Dam in 1939 and was relocated to its current location. 朝鮮民主主義人民共和国，平安北道北部の郡。鴨緑江中流の水豊湖沿岸にあり，飛来峯(1470m)に発源し，郡内を貫流する昌洲川渓谷沿いに集落が形成されている。斜面を段々畑として開墾し，トウモロコシ等の畑作，畜産を主とする農業地帯となっている。中心地の昌城邑はもと鴨緑江河岸にあり，李朝時代初めから北境防備の拠点が置かれた町だが，1939年，水豊ダムの建設によって沈水し，現在地へ移転した。【谷浦孝雄】
