Yuu [town] - Yuu

Japanese: 由宇[町] - ゆう

A former town in Kuga County in eastern Yamaguchi Prefecture. It occupies the lower reaches of the Yu River and faces Hiroshima Bay. The main settlement on the right bank of the delta is the center of the Shuto textile industry, and textiles are thriving. In addition to producing rice, lotus root, mandarin oranges, and vegetables, the town also engages in sardine fishing and wakame seaweed farming. The Sanyo Main Line passes through the town, and there are tourist spots such as Yu Hot Springs, Mt. Taishogun, and Mt. Zenitsubo. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Iwakuni City along with Kuga County's towns of Kuga, Shuto, Nishiki, Mikawa, Miwa, and Hongo. 29.18 ^km2 . 9,294 people (2003).
