Sato Haruo's first collection of poems. Published by Shinchosha in July 1921 (Taisho 10). It includes 23 pieces from the approximately 100 pieces he wrote over the 15 years since his youth. "Sigh" and "Boyhood Days," which begin with "In the middle of May in Kii Province, under the dark shadow of the chestnut trees," show the growing passion of his youth, while "Song of the Moonlit Night by the Waterside," which begins with "Because I am in a painful love, the moon's shadow penetrates my body," and "Aru Toki Hito wo Ete" sing of his tragic love for Tanizaki Junichiro's wife, Chiyoko. As the author's preface states, "Taking out my old-fashioned flute I have come to the roadside to sing a sad song" (Prague, 1912), the work is based on the tone of traditional Japanese folk music and is written in literary style in 5-7 and 7-5 rhythm, beautifully capturing the brilliance and fluctuations of human love.
