Rostislav

...The territory of this state, which lasted for four generations, is said to have been centered on the present-day Moravia region of Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and extended over Bohemia, Poland, and Hungary, but the boundaries of the kingdom, as well as its structure, have not yet been fully clarified by ongoing excavations. The second emperor, Rostislav (reigned 846-870), strengthened ties with the Byzantine Empire in order to escape the control of the East Frankish Kingdom. In response to the Christian missionary activities by the Franks, which had become active at that time, he requested the Byzantine Empire to invite the brothers Cyril and Methodius, who were born in Thessalonica, to his court.
