1529‐1608 A representative Mannerist sculptor from Flanders who was active in Florence. He was also known as Giambologna or Jean de Boulogne. He honed his craftsmanship under the influence of B. Ammanati in Florence, and became the greatest sculptor of the 16th century after Michelangelo. Under the patronage of Cosimo de' Medici I, he worked with Buontalenti, the decorative designer for the city of Florence and the Duchy of Tuscany, and displayed his genius in the creation of large sculptures.
