Industrial property rights are an intellectual property rights system that aims to contribute to the development of industry, and in the narrow sense refer to patent rights, utility model rights, design rights, and trademark rights. In addition, circuit layout rights for semiconductor integrated circuits, trade name rights, trade secrets, etc. are also considered to be equivalent to industrial property rights. An "invention" protected by the Patent Act is defined as "a highly advanced creation of a technical idea that utilizes the laws of nature" (Article 2).
