Mysore N. Srinivas

Indian social anthropologist. Educated at the universities of Mysore, Bombay, and Oxford, he published excellent research and theories on village social structure and the characteristics and changes of modern Indian society in the Karnataka region, and proposed theories on caste and Sanskritization. After teaching at the University of Delhi and other institutions, he became a researcher at the Indian Institute of Management in Bangalore. His major works include Religion and Society among the Coorgs of South India (1952), Social Change in Modern India (1966), and The Remembered Village (1977).

インドの社会人類学者。マイソール，ボンベイ，オックスフォードの大学で学び，カルナータカ地方をフィールドとする村落社会構造，現代インド社会の特質と変動の調査と理論ですぐれた研究を発表し，カースト論やサンスクリット化(サンスクリタイゼーションSanskritization)論などを提起した。デリー大学などで教えたあとバンガロールにあるインド経営研究所研究員を務める。主著は《南インドのクールグ族の宗教と社会Religion and Society among the Coorgs of South India》(1952)，《現代インドの社会変化Social Change in Modern India》(1966)，《一村落の追憶The Remembered Village》(1977)。
