Letters of Junius

Japanese: ジュニアス･レターズ（英語表記）Letters of Junius

A famous set of anonymous letters published in the London newspaper Public Advertiser in the late 18th century. The first letter under the name Junius appeared in the paper on January 21, 1769. Over the next few years, contributions continued intermittently from a person who, judging by his writing style and thoughts, appears to have been the same author. Although he used several other pen names, the most commonly used is Junius, and they are collectively referred to as such. The letters under the name Junius are consistently political criticism essays.

18世紀後半，ロンドンの《パブリック･アドバタイザーPublic Advertizer》紙上にのせられた言論史上有名な，匿名の手紙群。ジュニアスの名による最初の手紙は，1769年1月21日付の同紙にのった。以後数年にわたり，文体･思考からみて同一筆者と思われる人物から断続して寄稿が続けられた。ペンネームは他にもいくつか使われているが，最も多用された〈ジュニアス〉で総称される。〈ジュニアス〉名のものは一貫して政治批判論文である。
