It is located in Kawasaki-cho, Shibata-gun, Miyagi Prefecture, at an altitude of 500m, on the eastern foot of Mt. Zao. It is said to have been opened in the mid-16th century, and was used as a hot spring resort for the lord of Sendai and his family during the Edo period.
