Lee Yuk-sa - Lyrics

Korean poet and independence activist. Born in North Gyeongsang Province. Studied in Japan in 1923 (Taisho 12). From 1932, he returned to Korea after two years of training at the 6th Corps of the National Government Military Committee's Officer Training Unit, a Korean revolutionary cadre school in the suburbs of Nanjing. As a member of the Righteous Army, an underground nationalist independence movement organization, he traveled back and forth between Beijing and the capital many times and was imprisoned 17 times. He died in prison in Beijing just before liberation. His poems sing of the strong and unyielding resistance of the nation in the midst of its suffering, in a time of refusal to yield and pursue liberation. His representative works include "The Wilderness" and "The Peak." He was also one of the few Korean writers who actively discussed modern Chinese literature and politics, including "On Lu Xun." After his death, the Collection of Poems of Luk-sa (1946) was compiled, and later, a collection of his papers and essays was published in South Korea (Republic of Korea) as the Complete Works of Lee Luk-sa (1975).

朝鮮の詩人、独立運動家。慶尚北道の生まれ。1923年（大正12）日本留学。1932年から2年間、朝鮮革命幹部学校である南京(ナンキン)郊外の国民政府軍事委員会幹部訓練班第六隊で訓練を受けたのち帰国。民族主義系の地下独立運動組織である義烈団のメンバーとして北京(ペキン)との間を何度も行き来して投獄は17回に及び、解放直前北京で獄死した。彼の詩は民族の受難の時期に、解放を希求してあくまでも屈しない民族の強い抵抗の意志を格調高く歌っている。代表作に『曠野(こうや)』『絶頂』がある。また彼は『魯迅(ろじん)論』をはじめ、現代中国の文学、政治を積極的に論じた、朝鮮では数少ない文学者でもあった。没後『陸史詩集』（1946）が編まれ、その後論文、エッセイなども集めて『李陸史全集』（1975）が韓国（大韓民国）で出版されている。
