This is a record of the five Edo-period roads (Tokaido, Nakasendo, Koshu-dochu, Nikko-dochu, Oshu-dochu) and their associated roads (Mino-ji, Saya-ji, Honzaka-do, Yamazaki-dori, Nikko Onari-do, Mibu-dori, Nikko Reiheishi-kaido, Mito-Sakura-do) and the conditions along the roads. There are 71 volumes and 1 volume of a list. A copy is in the possession of the Communications Museum. For each road, there are descriptions similar to those in a detailed list of the post stations, such as the post office fee, household entrance, size of the main inn, number of lodgings, wages for horses and men, the post office staff and horses and how they were assigned, shrines and temples, and occupations. It also records the names of villages, tree-lined streets, mileposts, positions, bridges, etc., that are required for the roadside cleaning, and the lords, village fees, and occupations of the villages along the road. Most of the household statistics are from 1843, but some are from around the Ansei period (1854-1860). → Related topics Akasaka|Itabashi|Iwabuchi|Ejiri|Kanagawa|Goyu|Shinagawa|Shirasuka|Senju|Takaido|Tenmei|Naito Shinjuku|Narai|Hisaka|Hara|Nuda|Hodogaya|Yoshida Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
