Kago Gold Mine

...Initially there were only two bays, Makurazaki Bay and Shirasawa Bay, but in 1767 (Meiwa 4), eight bays were added to Shioya Bay, making it three. In 1683 (Tenwa 3), the Kanago Gold Mine, one of the three mountains of Satsuma along with Nagano Gold Mine and Serigano Gold Mine, was opened under direct management of the domain. A reply to the shogunate inspector in 1709 states that the annual production was over 15 kan, but there was a time when the production was 36 kan per month for 36 consecutive months.
