Water broom - Water broom

Japanese:
Water broom - Water broom

A perennial aquatic plant in the Nymphaeaceae family (APG classification: Nymphaeaceae). It blooms in August to October with yellow flowers measuring 3 to 4 centimeters in diameter. It grows in ponds from central Honshu westward to Kyushu. It resembles the water lily, but differs from the water lily in that its leaves are broadly elliptical, 5 to 11 centimeters long, float on the water surface, and the anthers of the stamens are short. Its Japanese name means "water lily in Oguraike Pond in Kyoto," but the pond no longer exists.
