A medieval za. Located between Nishiki-koji and Muromachi in Kyoto, it was one of the za of the Gion Shrine priests. Among the za of the Gion Shrine, the Kosodeza is thought to have been established quite early in the Middle Ages, along with the Horikawa Zaimoku Jinnin, Wataza, and Kanruiza. Kosode became very popular as a garment worn by both men and women after the mid-Kamakura period, so it was produced in large quantities, and in addition to custom-made products, there were also ready-made products. The price was said to be over 3 kanmon for "Machiorimono" and 2 kan 5,600 mon for "Kitanomono". If "Machiorimono" was a product of the Kosodeza, it is possible that there was a Kosodeza attached to the Kitano Shrine. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
