Japanese: 周年栽培 - しゅうねんさいばい

Vegetables are grown at various times of the year in order to be available year-round. For most vegetables, the growing season is limited by temperature and day length, so shipments tend to be concentrated in a short period called the peak season or "shun" (season). However, for vegetables that are in high demand throughout the year, when shipments fall short after the peak season, the price of the produce rises. As a result, cultivation methods were developed to target shipping times, and today many vegetables are grown throughout the year.

野菜を周年供給するために種々の時期に栽培を行うこと。大部分の野菜では，栽培の時期が温度や日長条件によって制限されるので，出盛り期またはしゅん(旬)と呼ばれる短い期間に出荷が集中する傾向があった。しかしながら，年間を通して高い需要がある野菜では，出盛り期をはずれて入荷が少なくなると，生産物の価格は高騰する。そこで，この時期をねらって出荷する栽培法が開発され，今日では多くの野菜が1年を通して栽培されている。
