A member of the mammalian order Carnivora and family Canidae. A breed of domesticated dog, it is a type of sled dog found in Canada, Greenland, and Alaska. It belongs to the Spitz family along with the Husky and Samoyed. It is highly adaptable to cold and can withstand extreme cold of -60 to -70 degrees Celsius. It has a robust constitution, can tolerate rough food, and has a keen sense of smell. It is used not only as a sled dog, but also for hunting polar bears and musk oxen. It has erect ears, a curled tail, and thick fur that is about 8 to 15 centimeters long. Its coat color is black, white, gray, wolf gray, gray tan, or a combination of these. Other officially recognized sled dogs include the Husky, Alaskan Malamute, and Samoyed, but the American Kennel Club does not currently recognize this breed.
