Kabuki kyogen. Family story. Seven acts. Commonly known as "Tachiba no Taiheiji." A collaboration between Tsuruya Nanboku IV, Fukumori Kyusuke, and Sakurada Jisuke II. First performed at Edo Ichimuraza in May 1810 (Bunka 7). Following the popularity of revenge stories, this dramatization was based on the reading book "Ehon Goppon Tsuji" (1804), and can be seen as not only Nanboku's masterpiece but also one of the best revenge stories. The cast at the premiere included Matsumoto Koshiro V as Daigakunosuke and Taiheiji, Iwai Hanshiro V as Satsuki and Oyome, Bando Mitsugoro III as Magoshichi and Yajuro, and Onoe Matsusuke II (later Kikugoro III) as Yohei and Izuru Omatsu.
