This is one of the selection methods used in breeding, and refers to the operation of repeatedly selecting and crossbreeding to accumulate superior genes. It is a selection technique developed for the breeding of corn, which is easy to self-pollinate and cross-pollinate, and has been applied mainly to outcrossing crops. First, several superior individuals are selected from the test material, and in the next generation, mutual crossbreeding or natural crossbreeding between the individuals is carried out. The hybrid seeds are cultivated, and the same selection and crossbreeding are repeated in successive generations. There are various types of recurrent selection, such as phenotypic selection, general combining ability recurrent selection, specific combining ability selection, and reciprocal recurrent selection.
