Jouhandeau - Marcel Jouhandeau

French novelist. The majority of his works are written in a style of mystical neo-romanticism, with ironic allegory, depicting the inner lives of various people living in the fictional rural town of Chaminadour, centering on Monsieur Godeau, a character portraying himself. His works include "The Youth of Théophile" (1921), "The Sisters of Pensinglant" (1925), "The Interior of Monsieur Godot" (1926), "Mr. Godot Married" (1933), three volumes of "Chaminadour" (1934-1941), "Notes of My Husband" (1938), and "Uncle Henri" (1943). In addition to numerous critiques based on religious or moralistic observations, he also wrote seven volumes of "Memoirs" (1950-1972) and 28 volumes of "Diary Without Dates" (1961-1983), in which he directly talks about himself.

フランスの小説家。自身を描く「ゴドー氏」Monsieur Godeauを中心に、架空の田舎(いなか)町シャミナドゥールに生活するさまざまな人々の苦悩に満ちた内面を、皮肉な寓意(ぐうい)を込めた神秘的新(ネオ)ロマン主義とよばれる文体で克明に描く作品群が大半を占める。『テオフィルの青春』（1921）、『パンサングラン家の姉妹』（1925）、『ゴドー氏の内面』（1926）、『結婚したゴドー氏』（1933）、『シャミナドゥール』3巻（1934～41）、『夫の記録』（1938）、『アンリ伯父』（1943）などがある。また、信仰者的あるいはモラリスト的観察に基づく多数の評論のほか、直接自己を語る『回想』7巻（1950～72）、『日づけのない日記』28巻（1961～83）などがある。
