A practitioner who treats illnesses primarily through magical means. Depending on the region and situation, they may rely on magic, use herbs that are fully acceptable from the standpoint of modern medicine, or may practice a type of psychoanalytic therapy, but in most cases they are a combination of these. Shamans, priests, sorcerers, and Japanese onmyoji are often also practitioners. They are often chosen from specific or special families or lineages.
