A culture from around 3200 to 3100 BCE, characterized by the ruins of Jamdat Nasr in southern Mesopotamia, namely Babylonia. It was formerly written as Jemdet Nasr. Jamdat Nasr is 40 km northeast of Babylon, and in 1925-26 and 1928, S. Langdon of Oxford University excavated a large sun-dried brick building that appeared to be a palace, measuring more than 92 m by 48 m, as well as painted pottery with red and black geometric patterns and tablets with somewhat developed hieroglyphics.
