Franco-Flemish - Franco-Flemish (English spelling) École franco‐flammande [France]

Japanese: フランコ・フラマン派 - フランコフラマンは(英語表記)École franco‐flammande[フランス]
Franco-Flemish - Franco-Flemish (English spelling) École franco‐flammande [France]
The term Franco-Flemish refers to sculptors and painters from the Netherlands who worked at the courts of French royalty from the late 14th century to the early 15th century. Although the term "Franco-Flemish" means "French-Flemish," in reality they came from a wide area, not just Flanders, stretching from the Netherlands (northern Netherlands) to northern France, and served the French kings, dukes of Burgundy, and dukes of Berry, among others. Since the late 19th century, however, this term has been used for convenience. In the field of sculpture, famous artists include A. Beauneveu, who served Charles V and the Duke of Berry, Jean de Liège, Jean de Cambrai, who created the tombstone for the Duke of Berry, Jean de Marville, who participated in the Duke of Burgundy's project to build the monastery at Champauer (outside Dijon), and C. Sluter. All of them are characterized by their deepening of realistic expression without losing the sense of monumental style, as is typically seen in the tombstone portrait sculptures of royalty.
