The humid equatorial westerly winds over the Indian Ocean are attracted to the so-called monsoon trough (corresponding to the NITC), which moves north around the Himalayas in June, and turn northeastward. The equatorial westerly winds collide with the Western Ghats, bringing heavy rain to the west coast, and then enter the Bay of Bengal.
