At the top of professional baseball in the United States is the Major League, which is made up of 30 teams: the American League (founded in 1900, abbreviated as AL) with 14 teams, and the National League (founded in 1876, abbreviated as NL) with 16 teams. Both the AL and NL are divided into three divisions, the Eastern, Central, and Western, and play league games over the course of a season. About half of all games are played at the franchise's home stadium, and the rest are played on the road to the opponent's home stadium.
