Sleeve fastener - Sleeve fastener
During the Edo period, the practice of closing the sides of a furisode kimono worn up until that point at the coming-of-age ceremony for boys was called wakifusagi (armpit closing). Generally, coming-of-age ceremonies are characterized by changes in clothing, and sode-tome is one example of this. Coming-of-age ceremonies were usually divided into two stages, the half-genpuku ceremony at around age 13 and the full coming-of-age ceremony at around age 15, in which case sode-tome was an event that was part of the half-genpuku ceremony. That is, for the half-genpuku ceremony, the hair at the corners of the forehead was shaved and sode-tome was performed, known as forehead adjustment, and for the full coming-of-age ceremony, the front hair was shaved, and in samurai society, an eboshi hat was worn on this occasion.
