Shahti (English spelling) Шахты/Shahtï

A mining and industrial city in the Rostov Oblast in the southwest of the Russian Federation. Population 219,400 (2003 estimate). Formerly known as Aleksandrovsk-Grushevskiy (Александровск‐Грушевский/Aleksandrovsk-Grushevskiy) until 1920. Located on the steppes (short grass grassland) at the southeastern foot of the Donets Hills, the city is connected to Rostov-on-Don by rail. There are coal mines in the Donets coalfield, an ore-dressing plant, a coal mining technology institute, and a mining school. There are also sewing, clothing, ceramics, dairy factories, etc.

ロシア連邦南西部、ロストフ州の鉱工業都市。人口21万9400（2003推計）。1920年までの旧称アレクサンドロフスク・グルシェフスキーАлександровск‐Грушевский／Aleksandrovsk-Grushevskiy。ドネツ丘陵南東麓(ろく)のステップ（短草草原）に位置し、ロストフ・ナ・ドヌーへ鉄道が通ずる。ドネツ炭田に属する炭鉱、選鉱場、石炭採掘技術研究所、鉱山学校がある。縫製、衣服、陶磁器、乳製品などの工場も集まっている。
