Geometric Microliths

Geometric Microliths

...One type is stone tools made using small stone blades (approximately 1-1.5 cm wide and a few centimeters long) that are thought to be a miniaturized or scaled-down version of the stone blade technique found in areas spanning Europe, Africa, Western Asia, and India. These are called micro-burins, which are small chisels made by gouging the side of a small blade and breaking it off at an angle, and geometric microliths, which are made by leaving a portion of the sharp edge of the small blade and shaping it into a half-moon, trapezoid, or triangular shape. The other type is found in areas spanning the Mongolian Plateau, Siberia, Japan, and Alaska, and is a slender (approximately 0.5 cm wide) stone blade that can be said to have effectively utilized the unused stone chips generated by gravers, which were a type of stone blade tool, or keeled-scrapers, which were a type of stone blade tool.
