Japanese: あわせ(袷) - あわせ

A kimono that is tailored and lined. Tailored in a way unique to Japanese clothing, it includes long kimonos, haori, long juban, obi, and coats. Women's long kimonos have a lining and a hatsuke (hem wrap), while men's and children's kimonos have a through lining. The balance with the outer fabric is important, and formal wear for both men and women is usually made of the same outer fabric for the lining, with a shared hakake and shared lining. For women's outer fabrics such as crepe and rinzu, a thin Nishikisha crepe is used, and for tsumugi and oshima, a tsumugi hakake is used. If the outer fabric is light in color, a blur is best.

あわせ仕立て，裏つきの和服。日本の衣服特有の仕立て方で長着，羽織，長じゅばん，帯，コートなどがある。女物あわせ長着には胴裏と八掛（はつかけ）(裾回し)，男物，子ども物には通裏（とおしうら）をつける。表地とのつり合いがたいせつで男女とも礼装のものは同じ表地を裾裏にも使う共八掛，共裏がきまり。女物はちりめんや綸子などの表地には薄手の錦紗ちりめんなど，紬や大島には紬の八掛をつける。表の地色が淡い場合には，ぼかしがよい。
