King Vidor

…An American film made in 1929. The first talkie directed by King Vidor (1894-1982). With the advent of talkies, blacks were cast as the new talents who could sing and dance, and MGM produced this all-Negro musical after Fox's Hearts in Dixie (1929). Vidor, who had gained attention for his humanitarian anti-war film The Big Parade (1925), offered to invest his directing fee into the production costs, making this an ambitious work.
