Awa Shrine

It is enshrined in the Daijingu Shrine in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. The main deity is Amenotama-no-Mikoto, with his consort Amenotome-no-Mikoto as a secondary deity. His younger brother Amenotomi-no-Mikoto and grandson Amenotomi-no-Mikoto are enshrined at the auxiliary shrines. According to the Kogo Shūi, during the reign of Emperor Jimmu, Amenotomi-no-Mikoto led the Imbe people of Awa (Tokushima Prefecture) to this area and began to develop it, which is said to be the origin of the area. There are also oral legends of the place where Amenotomi-no-Mikoto landed nearby. It is listed as a Meishin-taisha in the Engishiki, has long been worshipped as the Ichinomiya of Awa Province, and was listed as a Kanpei-taisha under the Meiji government system. Its annual festival, the Hamaori Shinto ritual, held on August 10th, is famous. In addition, the Mikari Shinto ritual, held from the end of the year to the New Year, is known for its strict observance of taboos.

千葉県館山(たてやま)市大神宮に鎮座。祭神は、天太玉命(あめのふとたまのみこと)を主神とし、后神天比理刀咩命(あめのひりとめのみこと)を配祀(はいし)する。摂社(せっしゃ)に弟神天忍日命(あめのおしひのみこと)、孫神天富命(あめのとみのみこと)を祀(まつ)る。『古語拾遺』によれば、神武(じんむ)天皇の御代に天富命が阿波(あわ)（徳島県）の忌部(いんべ)を率いてこの地に至り開拓を始め、やがて天太玉命を祀ったのが濫觴(らんしょう)という。付近に天富命上陸の地などの口碑も残る。『延喜式(えんぎしき)』で名神大社に列し、長く安房国一宮(いちのみや)として信仰を集め、明治の官制では官幣大社に列した。8月10日に行われる例祭浜降(はまおり)神事は名高い。また年末から新年にかけて行われる神狩(みかり)神事は物忌(ものいみ)の厳しい祭りとして有名。
