Auriga (the Charioteer)

Japanese: ぎょしゃ座(馭者座) - ぎょしゃざ（英語表記）Auriga

Its abbreviation is Aur. It is a constellation in the northern sky along the Milky Way. This flat pentagonal constellation depicts the figure of King Erichthonius of Athens. He was born lame, but is said to have invented a four-horse chariot and was able to run freely around. Capella, the alpha star, means "she-goat," and she is depicted as being held in his arms. ε is a long-period eclipsing binary star with a period of 27.1 years, and its primary star is a giant star with a diameter several tens of times that of the Sun. The companion star also has a mass several 20 times that of the Sun, but spectral observations show that its diameter is quite small, and it is thought to be a high-density star.

略号はAur。天の川沿いの北天の星座。平たい五辺形を作るこの星座は，アテナイ王エリクトニオスの姿を描いている。生まれつき足が不自由で，4頭立ての戦車を発明し自在に走り回ったという。α星カペラは雌ヤギという意味で，彼の腕に抱かれた姿が描かれる。ε星は周期27.1年の長周期食連星で，その主星は直径が太陽の数十倍もある巨星である。伴星も太陽の二十数倍の質量をもつが，スペクトル観測からその直径はかなり小さく，高密度の星と考えられている。
