Inariyama Kofun

Japanese: 稲荷山古墳 - いなりやまこふん

This keyhole-shaped tumulus is located in the Saitama Kofun Group in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture. It is 120 meters long. In 1968, grave goods such as a mirror, silver rings, belt fittings, weapons such as an iron sword, and horse equipment were excavated from a gravel tomb at the top of the rear mound. In 1978, during conservation and repair work, an inscription in gold inlaid with 115 characters was discovered on both sides of the iron sword. The inscription reads "Xinhai Year" and "Wakatakeru Daio", which was deciphered to mean 471, with Wakatakeru being Emperor Yuryaku. There is a description that Owake served the Daio as a joutonin no obito (head of military officers). This confirmed that the "Daio" on the silver inlaid sword inscription in the Eda Funayama Kofun in Kumamoto Prefecture was also Wakatakeru. This was a valuable discovery in shedding light on ancient Japanese history, including the existence of the title of Great King and the relationship between the Yamato government and local clans.

埼玉県行田市の埼玉(さきたま)古墳群内にある前方後円墳。全長120m。1968年後円部墳頂の礫槨(れきかく)墓から鏡，銀環，帯金具，鉄剣等の武器，馬具などの副葬品が出土。1978年保存修理中に，鉄剣の表裏にわたり115字の金象嵌(ぞうがん)の銘文が発見された。銘文中に〈辛亥年〉〈獲加多支鹵大王〉の文字があり，辛亥年は471年，獲加多支鹵(わかたける)は雄略天皇と解読された。乎獲居(おわけ)が杖刀人首(じょうとうにんのおびと)（武官の頭）として，大王に仕えたとの記述がある。これによって熊本県江田船山古墳の銀象嵌銘大刀にある〈大王〉も獲加多支鹵と判明した。大王の称号の存在，大和政権と地方豪族の関係など日本古代史解明への貴重な発見となった。
