A small, delicate, weedy annual plant of the Polytrichum commune that grows in damp areas such as gardens. The entire plant is hairless. The stem is thin and branches as it crawls along the ground, with the tip standing upright from an upward angle. The leaves are opposite, obovate, small, and bear one tiny flower in the leaf axil. The flowers are pale green and inconspicuous; the male flower has one stamen and the female flower has one pistil, and they have no petals or sepals. The fruit contains four seeds. It is found west of the Kanto region, in Shikoku, and Kyushu, and is a completely inconspicuous weed that is not particularly used.
