Jacobinia

Japanese: ジャコビニア(英語表記)Jacobinia
Jacobinia
A genus of the Acanthaceae family, this perennial plant or shrub is known to have 20-40 species in tropical America, and is cultivated in greenhouses for decorative purposes. It grows upright, mostly to about 1m in height, with egg-shaped or egg-oblong, elliptical leaves arranged in pairs. A typical species is J. carnea , a shrub that grows to a height of 60-150cm, with densely arranged flower heads at the top of the stems and a purple-red or flesh-colored corolla that is about 5cm long and labiate, with the tip split into upper and lower lips. It is said to have been introduced to Japan during the Edo period, but in the horticultural world it is often called Justicia, its former genus name.
