The oldest surviving comprehensive commentary on the Nihon Shoki, spanning 30 volumes. With the table of contents, the total is 29 volumes. Written by Urabe Kanekata. The contents are divided into seven parts: introduction, Zhuon, Randatsu, Emperor's genealogy, explanations, secret teachings, and waka poetry, and provide detailed commentary on the Nihon Shoki. It is thought to have been compiled around 1300 (Shoan 2) based on the lecture plan that his father Kanefumi presented to former regent Ichijo Sanetsune around 1274-75 (Bun'ei 11-Kenji 1), and referring to private notes of lectures given at the Imperial Court from the early Heian period onwards and other old theories. It is of great value, as it contains a wealth of references to various classics that are not found anywhere else.
