Don Giovanni

This opera buffa (K.527) in two acts was composed by Mozart in 1787. It premiered in October of the same year at the National Theatre in Prague, conducted by Mozart himself. The libretto was based on the Italian legend of Don Juan by Lorenzo da Ponte (1749-1838). Don Giovanni tries to seduce Donna Anna, who is engaged to Ottavio, and Zerlina, a village girl, but fails. In the end, he is cast into hell by the stone statue of the commander (Donna Anna's father) whom he stabbed to death in a duel.

モーツァルトが1787年に作曲した全2幕のオペラ･ブッファ(K.527)。同年10月プラハの国民劇場においてモーツァルト自身の指揮で初演された。ドン･フアン伝説を素材にしたダ･ポンテLorenzo da Ponte(1749‐1838)のイタリア語の台本による。ドン･ジョバンニが，オッタビオの許婚者ドンナ･アンナや村の娘ツェルリーナを誘惑しようとして失敗，ついには，決闘で刺殺した騎士長(ドンナ･アンナの父)の石像によって地獄におとされる，という筋書からなる。
