Sharkskin - Sharkskin (English spelling)

There are two types of fabric called sharkskin. One is a worsted fabric with different colored threads arranged alternately in a 2/2 twill weave that gives it an appearance similar to sharkskin, and the other is a relatively thick rayon fabric with a flat or twill weave that uses multi-dull rayon threads for the warp and weft. The former is used for suits and spring coats, while the latter is mainly used for women's summer wear.

シャークスキンとよぶ織物の種類には、次の二つがある。一つは、色の違う糸を交互に配列して、2(ニ)／2(ニ)の綾(あや)組織とし、サメの皮のような外観を現した梳毛(そもう)織物、ほかの一つは、経緯(たてよこ)の糸にマルチ・ダルのレーヨン糸などを使い、平(ひら)または斜文組織にした比較的厚手のさめ肌に似た外観をもつ人絹織物である。前者は背広服地、スプリング・コート地などに、後者はおもに夏季の婦人服地に用いられる。
