Suggestion therapy

A type of psychotherapy that uses suggestion. It is a therapy that aims to treat neuroses, psychosomatic disorders, and behavioral disorders by using suggestion to directly affect the thoughts and feelings of the patient through verbal or non-verbal communication, without the therapist appealing to their rationality. Suggestion therapy is premised on the patient's increased suggestibility. Hypnotherapy, which utilizes a hypnotic state, is a typical example. Suggestibility can also be increased by narrowing of the conscious field due to fatigue or abnormal emotional excitement. There is a distinction between direct suggestion, which aims to directly eliminate or alleviate symptoms through suggestion, and indirect suggestion, which aims for a re-educational effect. When the suggester and the suggestee are the same person, it is called autosuggestion, and autogenic training, which has been applied frequently in recent years, is one type of suggestion.

暗示を利用した心理療法の一つ。治療者が被治療者の理性に訴えることなく、言語または非言語的な情報伝達を通じ、その思想や感情などに直接的に影響を与える暗示を手段として用い、神経症、心身症、行動異常などに治療効果を図る療法である。暗示療法は、被治療者の被暗示性の亢進(こうしん)が前提となる。催眠状態を利用する催眠療法はその典型である。被暗示性は、疲労や感情の異常興奮などによる意識野の狭窄(きょうさく)によっても高められる。暗示によって直接に症状の除去や軽減を目ざす直接暗示法、再教育的効果を目ざす間接暗示法などが区別される。暗示者と被暗示者とが同一の場合は自己暗示といい、近来しばしば応用される自律訓練法はその一種である。
