Shimeisho

Japanese: 紫明抄 - しめいしょう

A commentary on the Tale of Genji from the Kamakura period written by Sojaku. Ten volumes. It appears to have been completed around 1293. It is the oldest surviving commentary based on the Kawachi edition, an early Kamakura edition of the Tale of Genji. It was named with the intention of clarifying unclear points in the story written by Murasaki Shikibu. After the preface, a genealogy of Murasaki Shikibu is presented. The commentary is written in a question-and-answer format. It is believed that the author, Sojaku, is the son of Minamoto no Mitsuyuki, who edited the Kawachi edition.

鎌倉時代の《源氏物語》注釈。素寂(そじゃく)著。10巻。1293年頃には成立していたらしい。鎌倉初期の《源氏物語》校訂本である河内本を底本とした注釈としては現存最古のもの。命名は紫式部の書いた物語の不明な点を明らかにしようという意図による。序の後に，紫式部の系図を掲げる。注釈には問答形式がとり入れられている。著者素寂は河内本校訂者源光行の子かという。
